{"id":5174,"date":"2023-11-04T13:11:25","date_gmt":"2023-11-04T11:11:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.agchamaeleons.de\/?p=5174"},"modified":"2023-11-01T13:13:47","modified_gmt":"2023-11-01T11:13:47","slug":"genom-suedafrikanischer-zwergchamaeleons-entschluesselt","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.agchamaeleons.de\/en\/genom-suedafrikanischer-zwergchamaeleons-entschluesselt\/","title":{"rendered":"Genome of South African dwarf chameleons decoded"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">After a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.agchamaeleons.de\/de\/genom-des-pantherchamaeleons-entschluesselt\/\">reference<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.agchamaeleons.de\/de\/genom-des-pantherchamaeleons-entschluesselt\/\">genome<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.agchamaeleons.de\/de\/genom-des-pantherchamaeleons-entschluesselt\/\">for<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.agchamaeleons.de\/de\/genom-des-pantherchamaeleons-entschluesselt\/\">the<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.agchamaeleons.de\/de\/genom-des-pantherchamaeleons-entschluesselt\/\">panther<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.agchamaeleons.de\/de\/genom-des-pantherchamaeleons-entschluesselt\/\">chameleon<\/a> (<em>Furcifer pardalis<\/em>) was recently published for the first time in China, scientists from South Africa have now followed with the genome of two dwarf chameleon species.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">For the analyses, a male <em>Bradypodion pumilum<\/em> from Cape Town and a male <em>Bradypodion ventrale<\/em> from an introduced population in Johannesburg were taken. Muscle and liver tissue was used for long sequencing (HiC). The genome size of <em>Bradypodion pumilum<\/em> is 2.43 gigabase pairs (Gb), that of <em>Bradypodion ventrale<\/em> 2.40 Gb. The BUSCO analysis demonstrated a high completeness with about 97% of all existing coding genes in vertebrates. Furthermore, the current publication confirms the six macrochromosomes already found from the karyotype in <em>Bradypodion thamnobates<\/em> 2017. Various comparisons with <em>Anolis sagrei<\/em> were made. It remains open which chromosomes in <em>Bradypodion<\/em> are sex chromosomes.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The genomes can be viewed in the NCBI BioProject under the number <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/bioproject\/?term=PRJNA986319\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">PRJNA9861319<\/a> and under the BioSample numbers SAMN35825189 and SAMN35825190 respectively.<\/p>\n<p><strong>De novo whole genome assemblies for two Southern African Dwarf Chameleons (<em>Bradypodion<\/em>, Chamaeleonidae)<\/strong><br \/>\nJody M.
