Bescheint man den Knochen an diesen Stellen mit UV-Licht, leuchten die Bereiche auf. Man geht bisher davon aus, dass diese UV-Fluoreszenz bzw. die fluoreszierenden Tuberkel zur innerartlichen Kommunikation verwendet werden. S\u00fcdafrikanische Wissenschaftler haben dies nun an Zwergcham\u00e4leons weiter untersucht.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">F\u00fcnf <em>Bradypodion<\/em>-Arten in verschiedenen Lebensr\u00e4umen (Fynbos, Wald, Buschland) wurden daf\u00fcr untersucht.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Wenn die fluoreszierenden Tuberkel der Kommunikation zwischen M\u00e4nnchen und Weibchen bei der Fortpflanzung dienen, m\u00fcsste man annehmen, dass sich ihre Anzahl zwischen M\u00e4nnchen und Weibchen stark unterscheidet. Cham\u00e4leons, die in einem dichten Wald leben, m\u00fcssten au\u00dferdem mehr davon aufweisen als Tiere in offenem und damit f\u00fcr Fressfeinde einfach einzusehendem Gel\u00e4nde.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Das Ergebnis der Studie ist ganz erstaunlich: Das jeweils gr\u00f6\u00dfere Geschlecht der verschiedenen Zwergcham\u00e4leon-Arten wies die h\u00f6here Anzahl an fluoreszierenden Tuberkeln auf. <em>Bradypodion<\/em> gleicher Gr\u00f6\u00dfe hatten dagegen immer in etwa die gleiche Zahl an fluoreszierenden Tuberkeln am Kopf. Die verschiedenen Lebensr\u00e4ume schienen keinen Einfluss auf die Zahl der fluoreszierenden Tuberkel zu haben. Auch zwischen sehr von Menschen beeinflussten Lebensr\u00e4umen wie G\u00e4rten und naturnahen, unber\u00fchrten Landschaften bestand kein Unterschied.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Die Autoren schlie\u00dfen daraus, dass die fluoreszierenden Knochentuberkel bei s\u00fcdafrikanischen Zwergcham\u00e4leons wohl eher nicht zur Kommunikation genutzt werden.
